CIT’s Curator Incubator scheme is a new project funded by Arts Council England to build skills for emerging and mid-career curators. These talks are a linked series looking at different aspects of the curator’s role. Each event features leading speakers from the field of contemporary art.
Our first event (5th Oct) examines the role of the curator, which has become an over-used term in popular culture. In devising an exhibition, how do curators work with artists to devise a narrative and how can a curator help develop an exhibition that presents a coherent narrative to reflect the artist’s vision?
The second event (12th Oct) looks at the logistics of mounting an exhibition. Hanging options, lighting, working together with artists and the gallery, planning deadlines. This talk will examine how to develop an exhibition on a budget with tips for achieving a great outcome on minimal funds.
The third event (23rd Nov) focuses on critical writing. This talk explores the process for curators wishing to develop as writers on contemporary art for both print and online channels. The talk looks at which outlets curators can write for as well as tips for how to devise critical analysis of exhibitions and artists.
